booth“Our proposal was denied and the funder stated that our program does not fit within the scope of the foundation’s funding, but according to my research, I think it does fit.”

What to do:
Call the foundation and see if someone will talk to you specifically about why the request was denied. Ask for their guidance as you move forward and whether you might be eligible for funding in the future. (Many times denials have more to do with limited available funding than lack of mission fit.) They might offer some advice that will help increase the chances of your organization getting a grant the next time around.Take good notes and keep them in your file and/or database so you know what to focus on if you are able to approach them in the future. You will want to follow these directions if you are able to approach them again.
